Match report

With the luxury of being able to rest players Ardencaple took to the field in this re-arranged match after last week’s postponement due to the snow. With the sun shining in the players eyes, Caple chose to shot toward the west end of the pitch and came out with all guns blazing. This was without doubt the best start to a match Caple have produced this season. EDFC couldn’t get the ball out of their own half and when Caple got possession the passing, control and movement were exactly what had been practiced in training.
It was all Caple and it was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken. Tom battled in midfield, the ball broke to Rhys whose pass between the defence and out to Blair was superbly crossed to a salmon (esq) Aidan, who nodded in to make it 1 nil.
Blair was having a lot of ball down the right his pull back was miss hit by Rhys but his 2nd effort was chipped over to Jack, his head was only palmed down by the keeper right onto the toe of Aidan who prodded the ball home. 2 nil Caple.
EDFC then won a corner; an easy header by the forward was blocked on the line and then cleared by Lewis Fagan. From the resulting play a ball down the left by Rhys was picked up by Aidan, who as usual beat his man and cut the ball back to Chris, who with his back almost to goal flicked the ball into the net. 3 nil Caple.
Subs: Alan/Nathan on – Lewis/Aidan off
Caple had a good spell of possession but couldn’t find the clinical and the game had a quiet 10 minutes.
Subs: Eidan/Andy on – Rhys/Jack off
Some more good work by Blair down the right, this time his cross was a fraction too high for Eidan and his header went wide.
Half time 3 nil Caple.
Straight from the kick off, a pass into space behind the EDFC defence was met by a gazelle like Eidan and his left foot shot was smashed into the net. 4 nil. The next goal came from the back, Harry’s pass to Eidan was flicked onto Chris and his lobbed shot over the keeper made the score 5 nil
Subs: Lewis/Aidan on – Harry/ Chris off
Nathan was running his line well and his pass through the middle to Tom was met with a shot that was well saved by the keeper. Lewis played a ball to Nathan, his take down turn and shot into the top right of the goal was sublime. The EDFC players stood and the coaches all called for offside but he was well on and the goal stood. 6 nil Caple.
The next effort was from Eidan on the left, his free kick following a foul on Nathan was well saved by the keeper and a corner was given. Andy’s corners were of a high class as usual but Tom was unable to direct his header on target.
Subs: Rhys/Jack on – Blair/Tom off
Caple were on the attack, the ball was lost and before anyone could react a long ball through the middle was stabbed under Tommy on the edge of the box. 6 – 1 Caple. Eidan then had a good chance but his effort went just wide. The ref then gave an offside decision, called for by The EDFC coaches, a long ball out of defence went right through and volley from the edge of the box made the score 6 – 2 Caple.
Caple’s 10 minutes of madness ended when a ball from Rhys to Aidan was excellently dummied by Aidan and as he rounded the flat footed keeper he picked up the ball and slotted into an empty net. 7 – 2 Caple.
Lewis F, played a ball down the left to Eidan, he beat his man, looked up and pulled back a pass to Aidan to slot home for his 4th of the day. 8 – 2 Caple.
Subs: Chris/Harry on – Connor/Calum on
Aidan was fouled just outside the box and Andy stepped up with a good strike that was well held by the keeper. Aidan was put through and with what seemed like ages composed himself to nut meg the keeper and score in an empty net. Final score 9 – 2 Caple.
