Match report

Ardencaple’s run in the Regional Cup came to a disappointing end this morning away at Mill United in Hamilton.
On a chilly morning and following a slight delay due to an earlier late kick off, both teams started the match well, trying to play football. Mill Utd had the first clear effort on goal, but Tommy was up to the task and punched well to clear the danger. Eidan then had a run down the left but his cross was over hit and drifted over. Mill Utd had a lot of the play and was beginning to dominate; Caple broke out but again couldn’t make anything from this. Mill had the first corner of the game, everything was being played to the tall midfielder but as the ball was cleared Caple again had a chance but Eidan’s cross was well claimed by the keeper.
A few strong tackles were going in and as the rest of the game panned out theref didn’t seem to give much Caple’s way.
Sub: Blair on – Rhys off.
What would then probably be one of the most obvious penalty claims was then waved away. Jack broke into the box down the right and was upended by the defender and to the astonishment of all the Caple players no penalty. This spurred Caple on, another break down the right, this time Eidan’s cross beat the keeper but also the salmon like leap of Nathan. Jack was again taken out this time by a strong elbow, the ref seemed to be missing lots.
Half time 0-0
Sub: Andy on – Jack off.
The 2nd half started as tightly as the 1st. Andy played over a free kick form the right, Blair out jumped the defence but couldn’t direct his header past the keeper. Andy then chipped the ball over the defence, good control by Nathan but his shot sliced off the outside of his boot and into the side netting. Tommy was called into action, a good save at the feet of the Mill player, whose 2nd chance was chipped over the bar from 6 yards out. Mill United then broke down the right and as the ball was played across the Caple defence Mill had a man left over who slotted home. 0 – 1 United.
Caple again began to battle in midfield and Aidan’s quick feet in the Mill box enticed the United midfielder to attempt a tackle only to foul him. Penalty Caple, the ref just couldn’t miss that one!!! Harry stepped up and struck a coolly placed penalty to the keeper’s right. 1 each.
The last few minutes were tight with both sides having half chances each. As extra time beckoned, Mill again drove forward and the unmarked no 6 shot home to make the score 1 – 2. This was harsh on Caple who were definitely looking the stronger and the goal was scored in time added on for injuries.
