Reds v Renton Craigandro

Ardencaple came up against last year’s DFDL League winners and again came up short. After a very tight start and following increased pressure form Renton, Tommy was the first keeper called into action making a diving save to his right to palm a low shot around the post. Caple were struggling to get a foot hold on the game and play the free flowing football we have come used to seeing.
Jack was seeing a lot of the ball on the Caple right and following some good footwork, made his way down the line and crossed to the far post to Eidan whose shot went just wide. Renton then made the break through, a low drive past Tommy gave them a 1 nil lead. Caple went in search of an equaliser. Eidan was again through on the left but the Renton keeper made a good smothering save. Tommy was again called into service and saved well, holding on to the ball at the 2nd attempt.. Caple were again playing too deep allowing Renton onto them, and with only Nathan up front it was hard to get the ball out and clear.
The last play of the half saw Eidan clean through down the middle but his shot was again well held by the Renton keeper and the sides went into half time with Renton still in the lead.
Half time 0 – 1.
Almost immediately from the Caple kick off a slack pass was picked up by the Renton forward but as he fouled the Caple defender the inconsistent referee gave a free kick to Renton to the dismay of all watching. The resulting free kick was well held by Tommy. Harry was given a yellow card and again considering some o the heavy tackles it was a bit harsh!

Rhys played a ball over the top and with Eidan just beating the keeper to the ball his flick on pushed him wide and his ball back in drifted over the bar.

Eidan was then shown a straight red card for a petulant kick at a Renton defender, this effectively changed the game. Caple were now trying to force the game but unfortunately were leaving gaps at the back. The Renton striker was allowed too much space and with his pace he beat the defence and slotted a ball past Tommy. 2 nil Renton.
Renton then put the game to bed, they hit the bar before taking a 3 nil lead, again a run through and low shot into the corner, giving Tommy no chance. The referee then seemed to be giving petty free kick decisions to Caple, maybe in response to his previous poor performance.

Renton scored again making the final score Caple 0 – Renton 4. With the exception of Aidan who had marshalled his man well throughout the game no Caple player was on their game.
