Match report
After nearly 2 months without a match Ardencaple kicked off this years’ Regional Cup campaign with a well fought victory away to Finnart BC in Glasgow’s East End. The swirling windy and wet conditions didn’t help to make the match the most enjoyable to watch but the pitch was looking good following the recent bad weather.
The first half of the match, with Caple having the wind behind them was pretty one sided. Eidan was making his usual runs down the left hand side and on one occasion his cross drifted over the keeper and onto the post with Aidan’s follow up being saved by the keeper. The first shot of the match was from Rhys from about 30 yards but the ball drifted over. The game was getting bogged down in midfield with Finnart trying to use the pace of their forwards and just play the ball over or through the Caple defence. This tactic was pretty ineffective against the well drilled back four led by Harry.
Subs: Andy on – Lewis off.
Caple were playing some nice football in tight conditions as Finnart pressed the ball hard in all areas of the pitch. Eiden was fed the ball by Allan, beat the right back but his shot was saved well by the keeper.
Subs: George on – Jack off.
Andy was next to try his luck from the edge of the box but his shot went straight at the keeper. Some exceptional play by Aidan with a few 1 – 2s then beating 2 men saw him shoot but he just go under the ball and it looped over.
Half Time Nil – Nil
Subs: MJ/Calum on – Rhys/Allan off
Finnart, now with the wind behind them and in their favour were first to threaten in the 2nd half. Some good play straight down the middle led to Tommy being called on to make a save.
Aidan broke out from defence, beat his man, played a ball past the centre back for Nathan to run on to, he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net. 1 nil Caple.
Finnart won a soft free kick on the Caple left; a miss-controlled block was lashed towards the Caple goal and as Tommy despairingly dived to his right the ball went into the net. 1 each. This seemed to give Caple the boost they needed to start playing football again. Eiden was fed a ball mid way in the Finnart half, he beat his man, rounded the keeper and as Nathan had earlier, slotted the ball into an empty net 2 – 1 Caple. Caple then won a series of corners and from one of these the ball dropped to Tom who placed the ball past the keeper and between 2 defenders into the net. 3 – 1. Eiden out jumped the keeper, the ball fell to Rhys whose shot was saved, he then laid the rebound off to MJ whose shot was also well saved by the keeper. That was about the final action of any note. Caple 3 – 1 winners.
