Match report

Ardencaple U14’s welcomed Lochgilphead to Hermitage on Saturday with the visitors being the only team in the league with a 100% record. Before the match started the ever busy and strong tackling Lewis Grant was unable to start due to a knee injury.
Ardencaple started the game brightly with some good one touch football leading to a couple of early corners. Aidan played a long ball into the corner for Nathan to chase, he turned his man and passed the ball back into Aidan on the edge of the box and his shot was flicked over the bar by the defender. Chris was next to threaten the visitor’s goal but his shot was blocked for another corner. Lochgilphead had there fair share of chances and certainly contributed to an exciting and enjoyable match. A shot from the corner of the box was well saved by Tommy for a corner.
The first goal came when Lochgilphead attacked and their No 10 was given to much time to shoot, his shot was well saved by Tommy but his parry was picked up by the attacker to tap in from close range. Almost immediately Caple attacked and as the ball bounced on the edge of the box, Eidan was quickest to get a foot in and chip the ball over the keeper for an equaliser. Eidan was again given an opportunity to score but as he broke through his passed shot into the corner went just wide.
Caple were again the dominant team and from another corner, Blair’s delivery was met by Tom, who, in acres of space planted a powerful header into the back of the net. The final goal of the half came when a moment of madness at the back when the whole of the Caple defence was out of position led to the visitors equalising with a header. Eidan played a free kick into the box which was met by Rhys but his header was smothered well by the keeper. Blair was next with a free kick, this time Aidan’s header was brilliantly tipped over by the keeper. Half time 2 – 2.
The second half started pretty well for Caple who had the first effort on target after Aidan beat his man but his shot was well saved by the keeper. Nathan had an effort from the edge of the box as he managed to twist his body and shoot, this time it went just wide.
Lochgilphead won a corner and from the resulting delivery a free header in the 6 yard box gave them the lead again. The visitors then had a spell of possession and played the ball around well again with the No 10 controlling everything. When they were pressured they handled everything Caple threw at them. Caple started to try and play with width and Aidan’s cross was met by a stretching Nathan whose header went over. Next came what may be seen as the best goal of the season so far. Tom won the ball in the middle, passed to Aidan who flicked the ball quickly past his man and then beat the next defender. He was in the box and as the goalkeeper rushed out he casually flicked the ball up, over and into an empty net.
Lewis was brought on the final few minutes and after winning a ball in midfield, passed to Tom who fed a defence splitting pass to Nathan who rounded the keeper and slotted into an empty net. 4 -3 Caple.
That was the final goal of the game and Ardencaple maintained their unbeaten start to the season with 6 wins and a draw.
