Match report

Another must win game for Caple.
Caple returned to Thorn Park the scene of a 4 nil cup win earlier in the season looking to maintain their winning run and keep up the pressure at the top of the table.
Caple started well and had the first attack, Chris and Aidan linked up well on the right and Aidan’s cross was picked up by Nathan whose control was good and his turning shot well save by the EDFC keeper. Caple made the early break through just after, Allan turned his man, passed to Rhys who played a ball down the line to Aidan who crossed for Nathan to flick in at the near post. 1 nil to Caple.
Eidan had a good run down the left to win a corner. It was taken short and finally made its way to Tom who had a good shot just wide.
The referring was a bit below standard and his few glaring mistakes were being picked up by the EDFC coaching staff and their over exuberant and vocal performance was beginning to influence the young ref. He was intimidated to give a free kick to EDFC. The ball in was tipped onto the bar by Tommy but unfortunately dropped to the EDFC player to nod in at the back post to make it 1 all.
Sub: Jack on – Eidan off
Caple were panicking a bit, everything was being played at 100 miles an hour. The ball was being played high and long making it easy for the EDFC defence to deal with. There was a lot of huffing and puffing but with no real end product. EDFC again won a free kick midway in their own half, but was taken in the centre circle. A high long ball into the Caple box where the Caple defence held a line on the edge but with at least 4 EDFC players offside the referee ignored the appeals and the ball was put past Tommy and into the net. EDFC leading 2 – 1.
Aidan had a good run down the right beat his man and drove into the box; his shot hit the outside of the near post.
Half time Caple losing 2 – 1.
Subs: Blair on – Chris off
Caple started the 2nd half forcing EDFC back, Jack had the 1st effort but his shot went wide. Blair tried his luck next but again shot wide. EDFC then had a chance, the ref gave a corner and Caple switched off, a short corner was taken and the EDFC player had a free header at the near post which was saved by Tommy. That was probably the best save of the season by Tommy.
Subs: Connor on – Rhys off
Within seconds of the change and with the Caple defence still getting sorted a long bouncing ball over the top was headed over the advancing Tommy and into the net. EDFC 3 – 1. Harry was booked just after this for kicking the ball away, again after a harsh decision by the ref.
Subs: Eidan on – Lewis G off
Caple again went on the offensive. EDFC cleared the ball, Connor heading it back into the mix and Aidan turned and shot with his left high into the net. EDFC 3 – 2.
Subs: MJ on – Allan off
It was all Caple, Mini dummied and then beat his man crossed a great ball along the 6 yard box but just out of Aidan’s reach.
Subs: Chris on – Nathan off
Aidan was put through and his pass into Blair was neatly stroked into the net to level the scores.
EDFC retook the lead with a long ball through the middle and then EDFC striker slotted the ball under Tommy. Caple never gave up and with Aidan’s fast feet in the EDFC box they won a penalty. Harry stepped up to hammer the ball into the net 4 each. Eidan raced down the left his cross was cleared to MJ who put a great ball into the front post but Blair’s header was just wide. The last action of the game was Chris receiving a yellow card for a tackle on the final whistle.
Final score 4 all. This result probably ended both team’s chances of winning the league. With only 1 game left Caple are 2 points behind Kilpatrick but ahead of Renton who have 3 games in hand.
